The arts live in Coyoacan
Last June 10th was inaugurated the center of the Living Arts of Coyoacan. It is a new recreational area south of Mexico City, a cultural garden with galleries and potential to accommodate endless proposals and activities.
Coyoacan. Place of coyotes, walks and history. Home of famous personalities ranging from the Conqueror Hernán Cortés and La Malinche, to artists such as Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, José Chávez Morada. The great chronicler of the city, Salvador Novo also lived under the shelter of its trees as well as writers such as Rubén M. Campos and José Juan Tablada. The latter, has a synthetic poem dedicated to this symbolic place "Coyoacan, the dead past, the coyote of your hieroglyphics, launches relentless lament…"
And is that, of summer villa with a woody, provincial and quiet, this site became a meeting point, a walk and recreation, a place to visit obliged for those who want to know the city. A place full of life.
In addition to traditional shops, this neighborhood has an attractive cultural offer. Museums like that of popular cultures, the Blue House, the house of Léon Trotsky, the Anahuacalli, the watercolor one, among others; Galleries, bookstores − such as Elena Garro −, and sites like the national Fonoteca are some points of interest, areas of culture and knowledge. A new proposal is added to this offer: the Centre for Living Arts.
This one is located in the street Salvador Novo next to the national Fonoteca, on the site that occupied the government offices and file of the INDAAVBIN. Jessica and Karla Briones are coordinators of this new space whose objective is to bring together culture, education, the environment and thus reinforce the identity of Coyoacan as the epicenter of the culture of our city.
The centre has an area of concerts, classrooms, rooms where workshops and laboratories will be held, with expert advice, a library, a garden where exhibitions or other recreational activities can be held, and a terrace in Where a restaurant called "Frida" is located.
The objective of this place is that the public can approach the culture in a natural and playful way. It is dedicated to those who want to satisfy their curiosity or expand their artistic training. However, it focuses on two groups in particular: vulnerable sectors (for those who intend to create support networks) and the child population. To this end, he has included in his program exhibitions, live events (theatre, dance, expanded poetry, performance and multimedia presentations), projections, conferences and seminars, as well as children's versions of these events.
"The Center for Living Arts wants to make a generous, entertaining and attractive way for all a non-formal education based on the arts and cultural representations that surround us, and thereby stop the deterioration of the environment. To help us be able to transform our environment and the way we live, to have a high impact on interpersonal and environmental relations. "
In short, it is an inclusive and versatile place, one of those necessary places in the city to promote the art and the coexistence, and in this way also solve the basic necessities of recreation for the inhabitants of the city, that is to say, to guarantee one of their D Rights.
Long and cultural life for Coyoacan.
