Gesler Survey, towards a collective work culture in Latin America

Survey on work spaces analyzes the Latin American case and promotes the creation of local strategies to improve labor welfare.

How and where do people work? How much are supported by your workspaces? What are the differences between Latin American workers and others around the world? This and other questions were the reason for the research of this consultancy whose objective is to generate strategies aimed at improving the design of work spaces and maximize the performance of the collaborator and the business in the region.

To this end, a survey was conducted of 4000 office workers in 9 countries, including Mexico. The following points stand out from the results:

  • The local culture tends to resist the more open or progressive office design, even in those places that offer the possibility of having complementary work areas.
  • Recognized for their sociable nature, Latin American workers are more effective when they work together.
  • Having collaborative technology in meeting spaces and individuals, has a distinctive effect on the level of innovation of companies.
  • Local companies need to improve, given that global companies achieve a higher score when measuring job satisfaction, providing an effective balance between collaboration and focused work.

Based on the above, the consultant concludes that Latin American organizations should seek a culturally relevant work environment that embraces global trends and, at the same time, adapts to the local lifestyle.

This physical environment should not only offer the right combination of spaces, but reflect the values and culture of the region. For this, it recommends investing in technology, recognizing the social behavior of workers and supporting it through policies and design of the workspace.
