Inspiration, magic and enchantment. Homage to the architect Luis Barragán

With an exhibition of sculptures by 20 offices of architects from Guadalajara, Monterrey, Mérida and Mexico City, commemorates the thirtieth anniversary of Luis Barragán tragic, key figure of the Mexican architecture of the twentieth century.

 

Luis Barragán died on November 22, 1988 in his home in Tacubaya, Mexico City. Since then, its architectural legacy has been appreciated by new generations, the image of its buildings has been turned around the world and the name of the winner of the Pritzker architect, has been surrounded by a halo of mystery that has been used by both advertisers and By modern pseudo-artists/alchemists able to transform Ashes into a diamond, and turn the diamond into an absurd and shameful object.

Thirty years without Barragán have allowed us to value what really transcends this great architect, luminary of the twentieth century: its architectural language, its built legacy, its historical importance. Therefore, commemorating his departure is also a way to evoke creative architecture, to bring to mind the magic that wrapped each of his works.

Under this idea, several architects from Guadalajara, Monterrey, Mérida and Mexico City participated in a tribute to Maestro Tapatio, a sculptural exhibition formed by pieces that each architect designed by making a synthesis of what he considered most important of The ideas and concepts of Luis Barragán's architecture.

The exhibition titled "Inspiration, Magic and Enchantment" is an initiative of the Ministry of Culture of Jalisco (SC), the ICC, the National Academy of Architecture Chapter Guadalajara, Arquiphilia and the Spanish company Cosentino. The latter sponsored the event on the condition that the sculptures of the exhibition were created with "Dekton", a material manufactured by the company.

Bertha Elia Gutiérrez Gómez, director of Aquiphilia – Organization of artists and architects, in charge of the call for the exhibition − said that "they will see colors, the classic colors, the Pitaya color so famous of Luis Barragán; The yellow, the lattices, the Cross of the Capuchin, is the synthesis that each one of the architects captured. "

Among the participants are Arturo González, Elías and Alejandro Terry, Miguel Echáuri, Álvaro Morales, Carlos Lassala Mozo, Guillermo R. Orozco y Orozco, Juan Carlos, Rocío and Santiago Name, Claudio Sainz David, José de Jesús López Padilla, Juan Palomar Vereda and Tania Quirarte de Guadalajara; Jorge Arditti, Dania Elizalde, Roberto Velasco, Lucio Muniain, Pablo Martínez Lanz, David Castillo Berrera, Juan Pablo Serrano, Jorge Arvizu, Ignacio del Rio, Emmanuel Ramírez, Diego Ricalde, Rodrigo Romero de la Mora, Claudia López Duplan and Humberto Mendoza de Ciudad of Mexico;  Augusto Quijano, Josefina Rivas, William Ramírez and Ricardo Combaluzier of Mérida;  and Agustín Landa Ruiloba, Bernardo Pozas and Karen Warholtz from Monterrey.

The exhibition can be seen at the Instituto Cultural Cabañas (ICC) in Guadalajara, from 27 July to 19 August.
